Angela Friedman is an independent costume designer and creator, with a background in theater, dance, and historical costume, as well as fashion and lingerie design. Her work marries historical construction methods with high-end theatrical durability. Having worked across costume and fashion industries since 2004, she now operates a private London atelier for limited freelance costume projects.

Handcrafting bespoke historical undergarments and period costumes for reenactment and theater. Providing tailored design and pattern development for private clients and theatrical commissions.

Founder and designer of an independent luxury lingerie brand, focusing on vintage-inspired designs in silk, lace, and embroidery, with small-scale, local production and global sales.


Program management, product development and production oversight, trend forecasting, fiscal management, strategic marketing, and customer service management.

2009 - 2012

Head of the Ladies' Department

New York City Ballet Costume Shop

Supervised the ladies' department of the costume shop. Managed the construction of hundreds of highly intricate, durable stage costumes each season. Conducted fittings and worked closely with world-renowned designers and dancers to bring the costume designs to life.


Produced 200-300 complete costumes throughout each 9 month season, in addition to fittings and alterations on an additional 300+ existing costumes.


Productions include: The Nutcracker, Jewels, Symphony in C, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Scotch Symphony, Four Seasons, Prodigal Son, Cortege Hongrois, Stars and Stripes, Morgen, Donizetti Variations, The Magic Flute. Debut Productions include: Bal de Couture, Naive and Sentimental Music, Namouna, Mes Oiseaux, Ocean's Kingdom, Estancia, Seven Deadly Sins, Call Me Ben, and many, many more.

2008 - 2015

Freelance Tailor

New York Fashion Week

Collaborated with designers and styling crews under rapid deadlines, tailoring and fitting runway samples and showpieces for print campaigns and catwalk presentations.

2007 - 2010

Theatrical Costume Draper

Various theater, opera, and dance companies

Created patterns for and constructed complex garments for active theater runs, opera performances, and dancewear, liaising between designers and the construction team to create durable and visually stunning designs.

BFA in Costume Technology, 2009

Advanced patternmaking, bespoke and couture sewing, textile and design theory, and costume shop management coursework.
